The process

Metal comes off the way face a few microns at a time with a hand scraper. Between passes the face is checked against a reference straightedge coated in engineer’s blue. The blue transfers to the high spots, those get cut down, and the cycle repeats until the contact points sit evenly across the whole face.

What grinding leaves out

A ground surface is flat, but two ground surfaces meeting each other touch along a narrow band. Scraping leaves a controlled pattern of microscopic hollows that hold oil, so the joint is both tightly mated and continuously lubricated. That is what stops a slide sticking at low feed.

Acceptance Testing To ISO 230-2

Every machine is measured against ISO 230-2, the international standard for positioning accuracy of numerically controlled axes. These are the checks it goes through before release.

If a machine misses on any line, it goes back into the shop until it passes. The report that ships with it carries the machine serial number and the measured values, not a pass mark.

Inside Every Machine We Build

Six assemblies, each named by brand and model on your quotation before anything is ordered.

  • CNC control

    Brand, model and software options named in the contract, including the option pack. A control can be the right brand and still lack the functions a given part needs.

  • Spindle

    Taper, power, torque curve, maximum speed and bearing arrangement. Belt-driven, direct-drive or built-in is stated, not implied.

  • Guideways

    Linear roller or hardened box ways, brand and size, plus whether the mating faces are hand-scraped.

  • Ballscrews

    Brand, diameter, pitch, accuracy class and whether they are pretensioned and directly coupled.

  • Tool magazine

    Type, capacity, maximum tool weight and diameter, and measured tool-change time.

  • Coolant & chip handling

    Through-spindle coolant pressure, tank capacity and chip conveyor type, specified in the contract alongside everything else.

Whatever is written on your quotation is what arrives. Before crating, we photograph the nameplate of every major component and those photographs travel with the machine documents. You can check the serial numbers against your order on the day the crate opens.

Leaving The Plant

Crating And Shipping A Machining Centre

Weeks at sea in a salt-laden container, then a crane at the other end. The machine has to arrive holding the accuracy it left with.

Machines are bolted to the crate base through their own mounting points, so nothing shifts on the pallet.

Loading is braced against the container walls. Movement in transit is what takes geometry out of tolerance.
  • Rust protection

    Guideways, ballscrews and the spindle taper are coated and wrapped in VCI film. Weeks of sea air is the test, not the warehouse.

  • Fumigation-free crating

    Plywood export crates that meet ISPM 15, so the shipment does not sit at your port waiting on timber clearance.

  • Lifting points marked

    Centre of gravity and sling points are marked on the crate, with the machine weight printed where the rigger will look for it.

  • Documents travel with it

    Packing list, the serial-numbered inspection report, electrical drawings, operation manual and the spare parts list, in the crate and by email.

Are Chinese CNC machines any good?

Some are excellent and some are not, and the spread is wider than it is in Japan or Germany. A well-built Chinese machining centre with properly aged castings, hand-scraped ways and a name-brand control will hold tolerance for years. The risk is not the country. It is that a good machine and a poor one look identical in a photograph. The reliable way to tell them apart is the plant: how the castings are aged, whether the guideways are scraped, and what is measured before shipment.

Which country makes the best CNC machines?

For absolute precision and long-term consistency, Japan, Germany and Switzerland still lead, and we will say so. China competes on value. For general machining, larger work envelopes and production work where the budget will not stretch to a Japanese machine, a well-built Chinese machine with a verifiable acceptance report is usually the rational choice.

Who is the leading CNC machine manufacturer in China?

The largest domestic names include Haitian Precision, DMTG in Dalian, Shenyang Machine Tool and Jier. For an export purchase, though, the size of the brand matters less than whether that particular plant builds your class of machine well, and whether it can show you measured data for the machine you are buying.

What is the best CNC machine from China?

What is the price of a China CNC machine?

Four things drive it: travels and table size, the control package, the spindle, and how much tooling is included. A compact vertical machining centre and a large horizontal with a pallet changer sit an order of magnitude apart. We quote a configuration rather than a headline number, because a headline number is how substitutions get hidden.

How do I purchase a machine from China?

In outline: agree the specification, confirm the configuration in writing, place a deposit, monitor the build, run acceptance testing, then release the balance and ship. The step most buyers skip is acceptance testing. Insist on a numbered report and a cut test piece before the machine leaves the country.
