Table-type horizontal boring and milling machines

The work sits on the machine's own table and the table carries it under the spindle. Boring bars of Φ110 and Φ130 mm, tables from 1000 × 1000 to 1800 × 1600 mm, and a B axis through 360° so four faces are reached in one set-up. CNC or digital readout.

Floor-type and rotary-table boring and milling machines

For work that is too heavy or too long to sit on a machine table. The floor-type frames add bed sections as the job grows; the rotary-table frames put 10 t or 20 t on a slewing bearing that indexes to any angle. Boring axes to Φ200 mm and up to 81 kW.

Choosing A Lathe

Bed Type Follows The Part

Sixty models is a lot to read through. Send the part instead: the largest diameter, the length, the material and the tolerance, and we will name the two or three that fit and say why.

  1. Flat bed for weight

    A wide flat bed carries heavy, long work and damps the cut. It is the right choice for shafts, rolls and anything needing a steady rest, and it is easier to load with a crane.

  2. Slant bed for chips and speed

    Chips fall into the conveyor instead of piling on the ways, and the turret sits closer to the spindle centreline. Best for repeat production of medium parts.

  3. Vertical for diameter

    Once the part is heavier than it is long, gravity works with you rather than against you. Flanges, rings, wheels and gearbox cases belong on a table, not between centres.

  4. Y-axis when it saves a setup

    A power turret and a C-axis pay for themselves the moment the part would otherwise move to a machining centre for a keyway, a flat or a cross hole.

Table-type or floor-type boring mill — how do I choose?

By whether the part can move. Medium-to-large housings that fit a rotary table use the table machine, indexing four faces in one clamping. Once the workpiece is too big or heavy for any table — large weldments, machine beds — the floor-type machine travels to the work on hydrostatic guideways instead.

Why does boring spindle diameter matter so much?

Rigidity. A deep bore is cut on the end of a long bar, and the spindle diameter is what resists deflection at that reach. The machines here bore, drill, face and mill off one headstock, so the spindle takes milling loads too — this figure on the specification page is the one to read first.

What does the rotary table give me on a horizontal boring mill?

Bore-to-bore alignment across faces. Index the part 90° and machine all four sides in one clamping: gearbox bores land true to each other because the datum never moved. Re-fixturing on separate machines is where cross-face position error is usually born — the rotary table removes the step entirely.

Can these machines face large flanges without a lathe?

The boring-and-milling headstock covers facing work within its capacity, and where a job needs lathe-class facing on a floor-mounted part, we will specify the right configuration honestly. Send the flange diameter and the bore sizes together — matching the machine to both is the point of quoting a configuration, not a model number.
