Notes From The Shop Floor

Technical notes on how the machines are built and tested, written by the people who build them, alongside exhibitions and open days at the Suzhou plant.

How 5-Axis CNC Machining Enables Complex Part Manufacturing

When a part genuinely needs simultaneous five-axis, and the cases where 3+2 positioning does the same job for considerably less money.
  2. CNC machining workshop with rows of vertical machining centers Technical

The Future Of CNC Machining: Driving Precision Manufacturing Innovation

Where machine tool building is actually heading: tighter thermal control, more measurement built into the machine rather than bolted on afterwards, and controls that tell you what the spindle is doing before a bearing fails.
  3. Vertical machining centre hall at the Suzhou plant Technical

Box Ways Or Linear Guides: Matching The Guideway To The Cut

Damping against speed. Why heavy roughing still favours a sliding way, and why a rolling guide wins the moment the job turns to contouring.
  4. Machining centre assembly line prepared for exhibition Events

Hankray Showcases Five-Axis Machining Centres At CIMT 2026

Two machines cutting live on the stand, with the acceptance reports for both available to read rather than described.
  5. Machining centres lined up on the inspection floor before crating Technical

Reading An ISO 230-2 Report: What The Numbers Tell You

Positioning accuracy is the figure that ends up in the advert. Repeatability is the one that decides whether your part comes out the same on Friday as it did on Monday.
  6. Coordinate measuring machine checking a machined test piece in the inspection room Company

Every Machine Now Ships With A Serial-Numbered Inspection Report

Laser measurements, test-piece results and nameplate photographs of the main components, tied to the serial number and kept on file at the plant.
  7. Hankray manufacturing plant exterior in Suzhou Events

Factory Open Day Welcomes Overseas Partners To Suzhou

Visitors walked the ageing yard, watched guideways being scraped and saw two machines under acceptance test on the inspection floor.
  8. Cast iron machine tool bed castings stacked in the ageing yard Technical

Why Castings Are Aged Outdoors Before They Are Machined

A casting moves as its residual stress relaxes. The only question is whether it does that in our yard or in your workshop two years later.
  9. Horizontal machining centres on the Hankray assembly line Company

Assembly Hall Capacity Expanded At The Suzhou Plant

More temperature-controlled assembly bays, which shortens the queue between a machine being built and a machine being measured.
  10. Machining centre sealed in a plywood export crate on the shop floor Technical

How A Machining Centre Is Crated For Sea Freight

Rust preventative, VCI film and desiccant, bolted to a fumigated skid. Six weeks of salt air is harder on a machine than the truck ride.
  11. Hand scraping a machine tool table, engineer's blue showing the contact points Company

Hand Scraping: Why The Last Micron Is Still Done By Hand

A ground surface looks flat and is not. Scraping puts the contact points where the load is and leaves the pockets that hold the oil film.

Reader FAQs

About These Notes, Answered

Who writes these technical notes?

The engineers who build and test the machines. The notes cover the same ground a visitor sees on the shop floor — casting ageing, hand scraping, guideway choice, acceptance testing — written from the build records rather than from marketing copy.

Are the claims in these articles verifiable?

The measurable ones are. Where an article cites ISO 230-2 figures, test pieces or acceptance checks, those come from the same serial-numbered reports that ship with the machines. Ask for a recent sample report and we will send one, serial number and all.

Can I suggest a topic or ask a question the notes have not covered?

Yes. Most of the technical notes started as questions buyers asked during enquiries or factory visits. Send the question through the contact page; if the answer is measurable we would rather show the measurement than write an opinion piece.

How do the Company, Events and Technical filters differ?

Technical notes explain how the machines are built and tested. Company covers changes at the Suzhou plant itself, such as capacity and inspection practice. Events lists exhibitions and open days where you can see the machines cutting — the filters on this page sort them without leaving the list.

Rather See It Than Read It?

The ageing yard, the scraping bench and the inspection floor are all open to visitors. Or send us a part and we will tell you which machine cuts it.
